Rhinoplasty procedures, also known as “nose jobs” are one of the most popular procedures Dr. Julio Garcia performs in his office. A rhinoplasty procedure is commonly used to correct cosmetic concerns of the nose, but can also be used to correct conditions that are medically necessary. For those medically necessary instances, health insurance coverage may be available for all or part of your surgery.
Rhinoplasty can make your nose smaller, change the shape of the tip or bridge of your nose and bring it in to greater proportion with the rest of your face. Medically necessary changes may include the correction of a deviated septum or other structural abnormalities within the nose that can restrict a patient’s ability to breath properly.
Rhinoplasty surgery can be completed in office with anesthesia, and only takes an hour or two to complete depending on the nature of your condition. Rhinoplasty is often associated with a long and painful recovery time, however much of this is myth. Rhinoplasty procedures, while prominently located, are relatively quick to heal. Your incisions will be located discreetly within the natural creases of your nose – making them virtually invisible to others. Your incisions should heal within one to two weeks.
During recovery, you will be required to wear a splint on your nose for one to two weeks. Your nose may also need to be packed to prevent bleeding and to maintain the structure and new shape of your nose. You may see some swelling and bruising on your nose for several weeks following surgery. This is normal and is something that will improve with each day. The full results of your surgery will reveal themselves within 6 months after the procedure.
