You’ve tried face exercises. You’ve tried Botox. You’ve tried not moving your eyebrows. But your forehead still looks droopy and older. And/or wrinkly. And/or your brows are sagging over your eyes,
Cosmetic surgery is a big commitment of time and money. You may wonder if getting an eyebrow lift is worth that kind of investment. Especially since you’re not even sure how long it will last.
According to Julio Garcia, MD, a Las Vegas plastic surgeon, a well-performed brow lift should rejuvenate your upper face for at least 8 to 10 years. It that sounds exciting to you, but you’re still not sure if you’re ready to commit to a “vanity” procedure like a brow lift, ask yourself the following questions:
Do You Want to Keep Looking Angry?
If you have pronounced glabellar lines (11s, or frown lines), you may be giving people the impression that you are annoyed even when you’re on top of the world. A permanent frown sends out a negative social cue that makes you look unfriendly and unhappy.
In the hands of an expert plastic surgeon, a brow lift will smooth out those deeply etched furrows that came from decades of squinting at the sun and working out complex physics problems (or just puzzling over the dog’s incessant barking). Another plus? Once your 11’s have been smoothed out with a brow lift, you can banish Botox for the next 8 to 10 years.
Do You Want to Keep Looking Tired?
As we age, our skin, muscle and fat all atrophy and become thinner. Our skin also loses its elasticity and resilience. This makes it easier for gravity to pull the tissues downward, creating sagging and drooping faces.
When your eyebrows droop, they hood your eyes, making your lids look heavy and sleepy. Even if you feel energized, you may be perceived as slower than your peers because your drooping brows don’t let you look alert.
A brow lift raises the positions of the eyebrows, pulling up excess eyelid skin and giving you a more youthful, attentive, and wide-awake look. You’ll not just feel like you can conquer the world, you’ll look like it, too.
Do You Want to Keep Looking Older?
A wrinkly brow is a dead giveaway of age. Some people develop wrinkles or creases on the tops of their noses, too. Age discrimination in the workplace and elsewhere is well-documented. Even older people discriminate against others who show their age.
You can wear your hair in bangs to hide your forehead wrinkles and your “wisdom,” or you can choose whatever hairstyle you wish … after smoothing out your brow with a brow lift.
Your New Brow: Sculpted By an Artist
If you’re starting to think that a brow lift is more than just a cosmetic procedure and may also have lifestyle benefits, Julio Garcia, MD, a Las Vegas plastic surgeon, is available for a consultation. Not only is he an expert plastic surgeon with decades of experience, his background as an artist and art historian means that he brings a highly developed sense of aesthetics to every procedure.
Most plastic surgeons can offer you two choices for a brow lift:
Traditional open brow lift. In this procedure, the plastic surgeon makes one long, continuous incision at the hairline. The skin and tissues are pulled upward, the excess trimmed away, and the tightened skin and muscle sewn back into place. This will raise your hairline to a degree. It may not be appropriate for people with high hairlines or severe balding.
Endoscopic brow lift. The plastic surgeon Las Vegas creates a series of small incisions in the scalp. An endoscope (which allows the visualization of tissues) is inserted into one of the incisions. Surgical tools to pull, cut and stitch the tissues are inserted in another nearby. Once the new position of the skin and muscle have been determined, anchors are used to secure it and excess tissue is trimmed away. This is a less invasive procedure that has minimal effect on the hairline.
Although Dr. Garcia performs endoscopic lifts, and will do so at the patient’s request, he has found that the scattered incisions don’t allow him as sufficient control over the aesthetic improvement of the brow. The results are also not as long-lasting as in an open procedure.
Dr. Garcia’s Modified Open Brow Lift
To get the benefits of both endoscopic and open brow lifts, Dr. Garcia modified the open brow lift procedure by making a “dotted” incision line further back on the scalp. This gives him 20 to 25 points of fixation, allowing him to exert varying forces at different intervals to make the brow look smooth, natural, and beautiful. This technique also provides longer lasting results than an endoscopic lift. Dr. Garcia has been honored to train many other plastic surgeons how to perform his groundbreaking modified open brow lift.
