I have been telling my patients since 1988 that liposuction is not an alternative for good weight management. The fat cells that are removed with liposuction are permanently gone, and do not grow back. If one overeats after liposuction and gains fat, it will look for new places to go. One of the worst places for that fat to settle is the intra-abdominal or visceral fat. This fat cannot be removed with surgery and is also metabolically active. It is difficult fat to lose and can create estrogens in both men and women that have bad health consequences. So looking to liposuction as an alternative to proper nutrition and exercise is not something that should be done.
