If you're considering rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, to enhance your facial features, you may have questions about the procedure and what it entails. With any surgery it's important to understand the process and what happens during the surgery, so there are no surprises and so that you have peace of mind.
At the Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic, Dr. Julio Garcia encourages his patients to ask questions during their consultation, as his objective is to work with you to achieve your aesthetic goals. If you live in the Henderson or Las Vegas areas and are curious about what exactly happens during a nose surgery, Dr. Garcia and his staff are happy to talk with you and encourage you to look at before and after photos of his clients. Some things you can expect for your nose surgery include:
- The skin of the nose is separated from the bone and cartilage
- The bone is reshaped using special tools
- Excess cartilage is cut and folded and held in place with sutures
- A cartilage graft may be used from your own tissue
- The skin of the nose is then stretched back over the bone and stitched
The entire procedure can take anywhere from one to three hours, depending on the severity of the reconstruction. Afterward, Dr. Garcia does not use nasal packing, which makes it easier to breathe post procedure. Depending on your procedure, a small cast or steri-strips are applied to your nose. Your first follow-up visit will be the day after surgery, and after one week your sutures are removed.
