Facial implants can enhance the natural beauty of your face by adding definition and structure to your cheeks or chin.

Considering Facial Implants

Facial implants may be appropriate for you if you have:

  • A small chin
  • Weak jawline
  • Lack of facial contour

Patients seeking facial implants must have reached physical maturity of the head and skull, which generally occurs in late adolescence.

Preparing for Facial Implants

In consultation with Dr. Garcia, you will discuss your concerns about your lack of facial definition and how cheek or chin implants can augment the structure of your face for a more proportional appearance with greater projection of cheekbones or jawline.

Once you have decided to get facial implants, Dr. Garcia will provide guidelines for preparing for your surgery, including what to eat, what supplements to take or avoid, and how to care for yourself during recovery. If you are a smoker, you must refrain from smoking for two weeks before and after your surgery to promote better healing.

Knowing the Risks

Being fully informed about your plastic surgery procedure means knowing and accepting the risks that accompany it. Dr. Garcia is an accomplished plastic surgeon with years of experience. However, complications can occur. Risks associated with facial implants include scarring, infection, change in skin sensation, and shifting of implants.

Understanding the Procedure

During the facial implant procedures, incisions will be made for insertion of the implants. Placement of these incisions can vary depending on the position of the implants and additional facial procedures being performed.

For cheek implants, Dr. Garcia may make an incision through the inside of the mouth, inside the lower eyelid, or within the hairline. For chin implants, Dr. Garcia may make an incision inside the mouth or under the chin.

Once the incision is made Dr. Garcia places the implant and secures the incision with sutures. Facial implant surgery usually lasts about an hour. Most patients return to work within a week of surgery and can return to normal activities within four weeks. You should expect to experience bruising and swelling in the surgical area for at least a few days. Once the swelling subsides, you will be left with a more proportional, balanced facial appearance.
