- i asked about the kneck tightening a little while ago. Do you know the procedure he is refering to? .. and if so is he right there will be little swelling or bruising. Also is it to early to have another lower face/neck lift. I asked this doctor about an endoscopic lower lift and he didn`t seem to know
Answer: I think it is a small made up thing,no well described named procedure for what he is talking about. I think if you have enough loose skin that you are concerned about it you can have it done again, but remember that the quality of the scar is dependent on tension and if you close it too tight, the tension is greater and can cause wider scars. Endoscopic neck lifts are a waste. JG 12.13.07
- Can you explain blunt the definition of the chin . That`s a little upsetting to know he may have done wrong. I`m not ready for a neck lift or anything like that. Just wanted a little lipo on the neck and he said that by making an incision there would help the results, that by removing just fat would leave that area loose. Sounds like maybe I let him talk me into something I didn`t want in the first place, just a little lipo is all I wanted, but I trusted his opinion.
Answer: well you need skin to redrape and make the jawline look more defined, by cutting the skin out under the chin it pulls the skin forward rather than back so the jawline will not look as tight as if it had been pulled from behind the ear. Give it time and let the skin heal and see how it looks. JG 12.11.07
- Hi again - thank you for your responses. I posted the question about the corset platysma repair with suture suspension neck lift. Specifically, I was wanting to know if after 15 months, it would be easy to remove the suture suspension since I still find the sensation annoying. I think my sentence structure was poor and my question read like I wanted to remove the corset repair. I do not. Just the suture suspension. Typically, are these two separate procedures (suture suspension + corset repair)? It sounds like having the suture suspension removed should not be difficult and should not affect the corset playstma repair part of the procedure? Thank you - promise last question ;-).
Answer: should be relatively easy to do, yes. Removing the suspension suture will not undo the corset repair. No worries, ask away. JG 12.7.07
- Hello Dr. Garcia and thank you. I will try to be as brief as possible! about 15 months ago, I had a platysma repair w/suture suspension neck lift. Was very pleased with the results - very reputable and execellent surgeon - but I simply could not get use to the sensation of the suture suspension. So, after 4 months, the Dr. released one side. I wanted the suture removed entirely, but the Dr. wanted to try to preserve some of the esthetic benefit. It has been a year since the Dr. released one side, and I still have a very annoying sensation of the suture across the front of my throat - on some days, I allow it to totally distract me (feels lower on some days than others) - and I do not feel it is providing any improvement at this point. The platysma repair continues to please me. I would like it removed. Can you please tell me whether this would this be a straight forward procedure? If I rub hard enough behind the ear of the unreleased side, I can still feel where I think the suture ends. Is the procedure standard? Can another surgeon remove it for me without the original dr. being involved? I am uncomfortable asking the dr. who performed the initial procedure. Thank you again -
Answer: it is not an uncommon procedure but not standard, I think any surgeon can remove the suture for you and the repair of the platysma should hold since it has been a while since the surgery. JG 12.7.07

Answer: it is not a standard procedure but not uncommmon, I think you can stil have the suture removed and enough time has passed that the platysma repair should hold up without it. Any surgeon can likely remove it for you. JG 12.7.07
- I had a mid cheek lift, brow lift neck lift and fat grafting 3 weeks ago , I am still swollen and my eyes are kind of cat like. Will my eves go back to normal and how long will it take for the swelling to go down so I look like me again
Answer: I think with all of that it wil likely take another 3-4 weeks but it should get better, hang in there. JG 11.30.07
- Hi Doc...just to clarify, did you say that you almost never get good results with doing a n/l only w/o doing a f/l? I`ve been told on 2 consults that my face doesn`t need anything, that it doesn`t warrant doing a facelift at this time. But my neck does have that little sag going on. What are my options? thx
Answer: well an isolated neck lift can be done but if the incision and skin redraping are not carried onto the cheek, at times there is an incomplete tightening of the neck becasue the isolated neck lift with no cheek incision only has a horizontal pull and the cheek incision is need to give the vertical dimension that is needed in some individuals. - forgot to ask in a previous question how long a midface lift or neck lift would last on a 56 year old female who is aging normally with a little bit of sagging. my doctor doesnt think i need a facelift, but would do something called mesotherapy. said he has satisfied patients. i have always been satisfied with the fillers he has used on my face. what is your opinion, and why. thanks for your insight . appreciate what you do on your site.
Answer: I would guess 5-10 years, all depends on the amount of damage, the worse it is to begin with the shorter it lasts. I am not a believer in mesotherapy, if she is so sure it wil work, ask her to give you a money back guarantee and see what she says. JG 11.8.07
- Hi, Dr. Garcia, First of all thank you so much--your site really helped me when I thought my lips were stuck forever after alloderm removal. Another person on your site had the same thing done earlier and really helped me through the trauma. My new question--I had some surgery on my face as well as a mini neck lift done through an incision under my chin. The scar under my chin is almost healed completely, but there are two white UGLY nodules at each end of the scar. Also in front of and behind my ears, the scars either keloid or hypertrophic (I don`t know the difference. Both surgeries were done in January, so I would think both these issues would be resolved by now. Please help. Thanks so much. B
Answer: the white lumps might need to be cut out and restitiched and the scars that are thick I think should be injected with 5FU or at least dilute kenalog to help them flatten, best of luck. JG 11.7.07
- Dr. Garcia: I am a 55 year old woman who had an endoscopic browlift and lower face/neck lift January 2006. Three months later, the skin/muscle under the chin began to droop considerably, and was redone 8/06. Now, 14 months later, the neck skin in drooping again. (The jawline was never tight/streamlined after the first surgery.) Now, the neck skin and jowls are drooping again; the skin under the eyes, around the nasolabial folds, and above the jowls is like an orange peel. The jowls are even more pronounced. The pores are huge, and fine wrinkles are prominent. Needless to say, I am greatly disturbed. Portrait, Titan, IPL and Pixel have all been suggested. Will any of then work to tighten the skin and pores, and reduce wrinkling? Or do I need another surgery and another surgeon?
Answer: I think you need a normal facelift and possibly Retin-A afterwards, sounds like you may have lost a little confidence so going to someone else might be a good idea too. JG 11.5.07
- I had a browlift, upper bleph, midface and neck lift 2 weeks ago, and had the staples out 4 days ago. The bruising has resolved well and the cuts have healed well, but I am still fairly swollen in the cheeks. However, I now have cords in my neck running down and forward from the ear area on both sides of my neck which feel very tight and become prominent when I turn my head. There was nothing similar prior to the surgery. Are these cords a normal result of this kind of surgery, and are they likely to relax? Also, one of my eyes appears to have less skin taken away than the other (the distance between the eyebrows and the cut is substantially greater on the droopy eye). The result looks quite unbalanced. Should I go back to see the doctor at this stage, or wait until my review in 3 months time, especially given that I shall be returning to my home several thousand kilometres away in about 10 days time. Would he be able to revise the bleph before I go home?
Answer: hard to say, what has caused the cords, if it is swelling it wil get better, if it the skin adhering to the underlying tissues that should also get better, if it is from too aggressive fat removal, it will not get better. I think you need to see the surgeon, the asymmetry you see is the biggest reason why I never do upper lid blepharoplasties and browlifts at the same time. Best of luck. JG 11.1.07
- ***I had a revision neck lift because of keloid scars. After second surgery i still have the scars but now my ears look weird. Thay are too pinned in and not asymetrical. Left is higher than the right. The inside of the right does not have a natural curve. Looks like a v shaped. And the the earlobes well I hardly have any, that I don`t want to wear earrings because it will make them more noticeable. My neck is still saggy and I have vertical ropey lines that were not apparent before both surgeries. I did not listen to my husband he said after the first neck lift to find a another doctor. What should I do? Can any of this be corrected? Thank you!!
Answer: I am afraid that you will need to wait for all to settle down and for there to be enough loose skin for another surgery to be done, might be a while though. JG 10.21.07
- If I had a face/neck lift, U/L eyes, would I be able to stay the one night in the hospital, and then drive two hours away to recover - or is it better to be very close after the surgery? I know you have had mentioned about 10 days, but I thought two hours might not be that far?
Answer: I think it best to saty for the first week until the sutures are removed, it migth be OK to leave after the first day if all is going well but if there are any questions or problems then you would need to come back, complications are rare but that is the reason to stay close by. If one is just two hours away exceptions might be able to be made depending on how well the surgery goes.JG 10.13.07
- If you are from out of town, stay one night at your facility after a face/neck lift, eyes - Is there a nearby hotel that a person could stay at to recover for the other 10 days? Is there one you recommend that is near you. Do you think this idea is okay?
Answer: yes, there is one just one block away. There are others maybe 15 minute s away too. JG 10.13.07
- What is the range of cost you charge for a face/neck lift and upper and lower blepharoplasty together? If I live five hours away how long would I need to stay in Las Vegas? After the one night hospital stay, would it be feasible to stay in a hotel near your facility that may be a lower cost than the aftercare facility?
Answer: need to be here for about 7-10 days and the fees are about $13,000 all inclusive with all labs and one night stay in the hospital.JG 10.10.07
- What is the difference in recovery time for upper and lower blepharoplasty versus face/neck lift? Is it better to do them both together? Is doing the blepharoplasty a few months ahead and the face/neck lift a few months later worth doing this way? How much more of a cost difference is this if you were to do it separate?
Answer: about 4-7 days more for a facelift I would say. I think if they are all needed, best to do them together. It is more expensive doing them seperate, maybe more than a $1000 difference. JG 10.10.07
- Dr Garcia, What would be your fees for facelift surgery with neck lift? I am a 47 yo male. Have you got a long waiting list? I am nearly bold, would the incisions be visible? Thank you
Answer: fees are $9800, all inclusive with one night in a hospital, the waiting list is about 2 months or so. The incisions in about 12-14 days are pretty well hidden.JG 10.8.07
- will mesotherapy work on slight jowling and neck that is only slightly sagging? am in my 50`s. my doctor recommeded it to me as he said i dont really need a neck lift yet. do you recommend it? thanks for your opinion and your site.
Answer: I do not feel that mesotherapy works to tighten skin anywhere on the body. Thanks for visiting. JG 9.21.07
- HI DR.GARCIA: TAHNKS SO MLUCH FOR YOUR INFORMATIVE AND QUICK RESPONSE TO MY QUESTION ABOUT THE LARGE ARTERY HEMOTOMA WHICH BURST ON MY NECK- AND THE COMPLICATIONS OF REVISION NECK LIFT. DO YOU THINK ( I KNOW IT IS HARD WITHOUT SEEING ME) THAT THE PORTRAIT PROCEDURE COULD bE HELPFUL., OR ANY NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT. I HAVE SOME CREPEY SKIN IN BETWEN THE VERTICAL BANDINGS . I LIVE HERE IN LV AND AM GONG TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A CONSULTATATION. YOU ARE DOING A TREMEDOUS SERVICE FOR ALL OF US OUT THERE AND i THANK YOU
Answer: I wish it would but I think no non-invasive technique will do enough. JG 8.27.07
- Where are the scars for a cheek lift versus a face lift? Also, do you do one or the other with a neck lift? Or could you need the cheek lift, facelift, and necklift? How do you know what you need?
Answer: similar location, just shorter, especially behind the ears. The facelift is a cheek lift and a neck lift combined. JG 8.23.07
- Where are the scars for a cheek lift versus a face lift? Also, do you do one or the other with a neck lift? Or could you need the cheek lift, facelift, and necklift? How do you know what you need?
Answer: the cheek lift scars are the same location, just shorter, It depends on what tissue are loose in terms of what you need. If the neck is loose the neck needs to be done and if it is loose in the cheek too it needs a facelift. JG 8.23.07
- If you have a facelift and neck lift, what is the average time that you can begin driving again? Going back to work?
Answer: driving in 10-14 days and work, depends on activity level but 2-4 weeks in many cases. JG 8.21.07
- Hi Dr. Garcia........I had a face and neck lift 7 years ago when I was 50. Time had marched on and I find that I need some help. Will a filler help with the lines that start at the corners of the mouth and go down towards the jawline as well as the nasolabial lines. My neck is still in good shape but the jaw is not as neat as it was. I was hoping this would help as I am not ready for another facelift.
Answer: fillers can be a bandaid but will not correct things the way a facelift could. JG 8.15.07
- Is there any treatment besides surgical neck lift that will tighten the platysma? Can microcurrent have any effect? The muscle may be weak, as it sags much for my age. (40)
Answer: sorry but no. JG 8.15.07
- Would Rhytec result in a tightening effect for upper arms or thighs, or enough of a tightening/lifting effect to be an alternative to a face or neck lift? Or are the results more related to surface than tightening?
Answer: it is not an alternative to surgery, they compliment one another. JG 8.10.07
