Question:

Thank

Hi Dr. Garcia

Firstly, If one has a dormant infection in their cheek implants but has had a recent flare up and is now looking to get them removed how long should one wait till they can be re-inserted.

Secondly, how long will it take the infection to clear up once removed and will it be necessary to take antibiotics and thirdly does this naturally clear up when implants are removed but you just need to wait until a certain amount of time? Thank you so much for your response.

Answer:

I would wait 3-6 months before replacing the implant. The worse the infection was at the time of removal, the longer I would wait. I think a course of antibiotics after the removal should be used to reduce the bacteria in the pocket.

Question:

Dear Dr. Garcia, quick question, are eptfe silicon coated Malar implants easy to remove if need be? Thanking you and kind regards

Answer:

I have used eptf coated implants for many years and, because they can be folded and then removed, as there is no tissue in-growth into the surface, they can be removed without much difficulty

Question:

Hi Dr Garcia! Quick question! Is it safe to have a fat graft to the face if you've had cheek implants?Mine are a comb of goretex and silicone (I believe) I ask as I once had an infection in my previous goretex medpor ones  so don't want to go through all that again with removal and re-insertion etc! Also how long is recovery and to see results? Would it be safe for me to have this procedure as I would hate another infection!!  Thank you so much!

Answer:

The fat grafts are placed either into or above the muscle so it should be OK to have it done with cheek implants in place below the muscle. Infections with fat grafts can happen but are rare. Recovery will vary depending on how much fat is injected but look at 3-6 weeks before all looks pretty normal. I wish you the best.
