For your breast augmentation procedure, you have many choices about the type of breast implant you want. During your consultation with Dr. Garcia, he will review all of your breast implant options and give you the information you need to make the best decision for yourself.
Silicone vs Saline
Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel. These implants tend to feel more like natural breast tissue, especially when placed above the muscle.
Saline implants are filled with salt water. They can be filled after placement, which allows for a greater variety of placement options and a little more precision with sizing.
When placed below the muscle, the difference in feel of silicone vs saline implants is much less. Women with a small amount of breast tissue will feel the difference between saline and silicone breast implants more. Ultimately the choice is up to you after discussing the benefits and shortcomings of each implant with Dr. Garcia.
The two main shapes of breast implants are round and teardrop. Round implants are the most common. They look like a compressed sphere and are available in varying degrees of projection from low to high, which is how far the breast will stick out from the breast wall. Round implants provide greater lift, more cleavage, and more overall fullness to the breast.
Teardrop implants are preferred by many patients for their more natural shape. Their sloped contour will fill the bottom of the breast more than the top. They have a textured surface to keep the implant from rotating, so they may not be a good choice for women with thin breast tissue who want an over the muscle placement.
Size of the breast implant is often the decision many patients focus on, and it is a very individualized decision. Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc) and each size will look different on each person depending on your body type, size, and amount of breast tissue you currently have.
In consultation with Dr. Garcia, it is important to discuss your expectations for plastic surgery. How you want to look and how active your lifestyle is will affect what size implants you will ultimately want. By taking measurements of your body, Dr. Garcia can recommend a range of sizes that will work well with your figure. Then you can choose.
